But before leaving Hatteras ... Early January brings vast bodies of Bluefins ranging from 75 to 550 pounds. They're usually located around the wrecks, the Rock Pile and the South East rocks. It is not uncommon to have 25 to 35 plus fish caught per boat, per day.

Closer to the beach, we find King Mackerel fishing is typically very productive for the 10 to 35 pound class fish. Just inshore of that, Rockfish (Stripers) along with Red Drum are found along the Diamond Shoals area with Giant Bluefins feeding right along with them.
Giant Blue Fin
Blue Fin at the dock Your spread of baits might look crazy, but hold on your fish might be a 30 pound Rockfish or a 600 pound Bluefin. Yellowfins are caught sometimes right in the same area with the Bluefins or can be found just North of the body of Bluefins. These Yellowfin typically weigh between 22 to 50 pounds and are great fighters, as well as great table fare. The same area also hold some 25 to 30 pound Blackfin Tuna, so be ready for a great day offshore!
